Each 1 Teach One Dance Workshops Series

Thunder by Nuthin' But Stringz

EACH 1 TEACH ONE DANCE WORKSHOP SERIES:

Each 1 Teach One was created to unify the East coast dance community while spreading awareness of not only the true essence of Hip-Hop dance but also embracing other genres of dance. Education is the first step to healing our community and by teaching the foundational elements of Hip-Hop Dance we have the ability to preserve the art form we cherish so much for future generations. The vision is to create a socially competent environment between choreographers and dancers in an effort to achieve personal gains as well as attain growth within the collective.

Through the concept of Each 1 Teach One, the tradition of exchanging experiences is used in an effort to improve upon ones trajectory in dance. An expanded knowledge of our craft is created through the relationships of dancer to dancer, dancer to choreographer and so forth. The individual is able to obtain valuable information which can be used to develop talent into skill. These workshops create an outlet for those who may not have an opportunity to acquire any formal training. By connecting them with professionals who have had experience within the many facets of the industry, they are presented with various pathways toward a career in dance.

Time: 1:30pm - 6:30pm

Date: March 4, 2012

Choreographers;

Renae Brown 3:30pm

I started choreographing in my adolescent years during times of
adversity. A career as a dancer and choreographer was never a desire
to begin with. I used the art, initially, as a recreational hobby.
However, as time passed I began to notice, no matter how seemingly
chaotic and unpredictable life was, dance was the only stable
variable. While away at college studying forensic investigations, I
decided that I wanted to be a choreographer and dancer for the rest
of my life. After returning to NYC from college, I took various
classes at popular dance studios such BDC, PMT and Alvin Ailey I took
a liking to the sharpness and strength in movement quality of male
dancers and a disliking the lack thereof in many female dancers
movement quality and reliance on sex appeal. Being influenced by this
realization, I decided to make an all female dance group dedicated to
deflecting the stereotypes of a female dancer. With that, F.EM (female
Empowerment) was since established in October 2009 F.EM has
performed in numerous shows and competitions throughout NYS

Snapshot and WandeePop 5:30pm

Deena ‘SnapShot’ Clemente
Wandee ‘WandeePop’ Candelario

New York Ricans, Dance Collaborators, Business Partners and Childhood Best Friends, Deena Aka: Snapshot and Wandee aka: WandeePop, share a passion and history created during the birth of a new era. Both were raised in the South Bronx (Fox Street b.w 156st and Longwood) on the same block during the early 70’s to Late 90’s. The Bronx was where they developed their dance skills and strong dance culture in neighborhood house parties, outside park jams, block parties, talent showcases in the Police Athletic League (PAL) and local cable station programs with their 80’s dance crew “Unique Force”. SnapShot and WandeePop learned about discipline and focus for their craft through daily practice sessions at the PAL Center and battles with other neighborhood dance crews on the streets.. But it was not until years later they realized how important those years on Fox street really were. Deena and Wanda began their journey on the streets to discover what is known today as The Hip Hop Culture. Today you can find them taking their street knowledge, culture and history into the studios teaching their signature dance class Snap, Pop n’ Rock: ‘Organic NYC style Hip Hop for Health’. For More information checkout their websitewww.SnapPopnRock.com

SnapShot learned how to be a performer through teachings from her big sister Alexis ‘Cookie’ Sanchez. She was her first major source of womanly inspiration and confidence. Her other siblings, Dennis and Wanda nurtured her Latin roots with Salsa, Rocking and the Hustle. She grew stronger as a dancer with the help, teachings and encouragement from SnapShot’s older brother Steve ‘Mr. Wiggles’ Clemente, and honorary brother Jorge ‘Popmaster Fabel’ Pabon that put them on the path to study Funk-Styles, which was known as Electric Boogie as the time (Popping, Locking) and B-Girl Skills (Breaking and Rocking) in combination with their freestyle hip hop party dancing.

After obtaining her BA in Communications she worked for MTV Networks as a Pre/Post Production Coordinator. During this time Snapshot continued to build her resume in dance education, auditions and projects. SnapShot was given the best opportunity to tour with `Jam on the Groove’ (the first and best hip hop theater show based out of NYC) with GhettOriginal Dance Productions. She had her first choreographers’ credit for Aaliyah’s (RIP) ‘Got To Give it Up’ shot in NYC. Deena Snapshot is currently established as a Certified Personal Trainer/Wellness Coach in the NYC/NJ area. You can also catch her competing on stage for fitness and figure competitions.

WandeePop remembers her sister Ceci as being very instrumental in her decision process to pursuit the arts; while continuing her education in Business Management. She has a long line of credits that range from films Hav Plenty, Box Marley, to music videos, commercials and industrial video for House Film which she is the feature dancer. She is also the creator of ‘Herb Ready’ Nutritional Program where she produces teas for cleansing and detox remedies tailored to your individual needs.

Even as teachers of their own open hip-hop party dances and funk-styles’ class Snap, Pop n’ Rock, which they teach at The Ailey Extension at Alvin Ailey in NYC, they are still disciplined students of technique and performance. Most recent TV appearance was LatiNation, a television show created to celebrate contributions of Latinos around the world. Most recent theater performance was the New Victory Theater ‘Legends of Hip Hop’ with Rennie Harris. They also collaborate with two inspiring B-Girls (HoneyRockWell and Miss Twist) on performances for Tru Essencia Crew (TEC). Representing the true essence of women in Hip-Hop ranging from the most recent ‘The Triple Treat Dance Workshops’, First Annual Ladies Get Down at Alvin Ailey, where TEC was honored for their contributions to the Hip Hop Culture, The Mr. Wiggles Wreck Shop workshops, The Rock Steady Anniversary workshop in NYC to opening up for La Kalle Block Party in Madison Square Garden, where WandeePop was given creative rights. Another source you can find them in is the book ‘We B-Girls written by Martha Cooper. Other credits include Japanese television show with popular Japanese recording artist, ‘MAX in NYC’ and an Oxygen Networks commercial. TEC produces and teaches workshops educating through Hip Hop for Health.

professional Dancer/Choreographer and Visual Artist.
Proud to represent the neighborhood that has given him his Pride, Style, Swagger, and Culture.
Washington

NY style Hip Hop is alive and well. While today’s popular choreographer have just been regurgitating the same MTV/YouTube dances, I make sure to bring history, culture and integrity to those that are willing to learn.

I have been blessed to be in the NYC club for over 18 years. Since then I have shared the dance floor with countless pioneers, allowing me to learn first hand what our culture is about.

Through my success as a dancer/choreographer, I have seen how Hip Hop and other Street Styles have crossed over all kinds of boundaries.

My classes cover many aspects surrounding NY Style Hip Hop Dance, Style, Emotion and its culture.

The American Dream

The quest for validity in the world, the pursuit of happiness, the journey for life’s wonders. What are our motives? How do we get there? Where is there? Why is it so hard? When will we get have it? Who will be there with us? As dancers  we seek out path and we run almost aimlessly amongst the throngs of dancers in our town, city, state and so forth; driven by emotion, external means (Materialism, Stardom, Respect, etc…) but is that the true American dream. As with “FreeDoom” is this what we chose to be our path or was this misguided pursuit presented to us as a reality. America’s Best Dance Crew, America’s Got Talent, So You think You Can Dance are not the answer but the vehicle of change if you use them wisely. If you have a chance to perform on a stage, challenge the norms, say something meaningful, present something more than what is expected of us, which isn’t much. Why live the life of the dancing monkey when you can be a part the change that world needs to see? Do not conform to the life created for you by society but strive for what you can pave the way for. Open the door to a new level of performance, a new American dream dictated by those who want more and wont settle for less.

Ask yourself this… if you are stuck between to closing walls do you give up or do you find a way to escape?

Does this video look different now?
